Homeopathy is an integrative medicine treatment that works with your current doctor's recommendations, to encourage the body’s own healing abilities to recognize/repair/correct imbalances within the mind and body. Minute doses of a specific substance are given to the patient in order to bring about a safe, effective and gentle solution.
Dr. Samuel Christian Frederic Hahnemann, M.D. (1755 – 1843), was a famous German physician and the founder of Homeopathy. He was a humanitarian who cared very much for people and their well-being. While practicing medicine he became "fed up" with the evasive and often dangerous medical practices of his time (i.e. blood letting, purging, lobotomy). He quit his traditional medical practice and began to focus his life researching alternative medicine techniques from all over the world, looking for safer, more effective cures for his patients. Out of his extensive research, homeopathy was born. He helped anyone and everyone with chronic or acute diseases, if you couldn't pay him, he still helped you. Homeopathic hospitals were created all over the world and some still exist today.
He is called the Father of Experimental Pharmacology because he was the first physician to prepare medicines in a specialized way; proving them on healthy human beings, to determine how the medicines acted to cure diseases. Before Hahnemann, traditional medical doctors gave out medicines using speculative indications (guessing), mainly on the basis of authority as experimental verification did not exist yet. Hahnemann's treatments proved to be so successful, that many of his physician colleagues asked to study under him and began practicing homeopathy, in addition to their standard medical practices.
Hahnemann discovered the remedial powers of drugs and inert substances such as gold, platinum, silica, vegetable charcoal, lycopodium, etc. By preparing the medicines through potentization, these inert insoluble substances become soluble in alcohol or water and their periodic table properties imprinted in the liquid. When the substance is ingested, the body senses the molecular structure and searches for a match within the system. When a match is located, the body corrects the problem and brings the system back into balance. In addition to the symptoms, homeopaths examine aspects of the patient’s physical and psychological state, then homeopathic reference books known as repertories are consulted and a “remedy” is selected based on the totality of the patient's symptoms.
Dr. Hahnemann supported the law of cure known as “Similia Similibus Curentur”, or “Like Cures Like”. This means that a remedy that produces symptoms in a healthy person will cure those same symptoms when manifested by a person in a diseased state. This law of cure has been verified by millions of homeopaths all over the world since the time of Hahnemann.
Hahnemann discovered the primary and secondary actions of remedies. The primary action results from the first encounter between The Vital Force and the external agent, and the secondary action is a result of the vital force’s reaction to the symptoms of that primary encounter. This discovery led him to the curative powers of many strong curing substances.
Note: The Vital Force is an energy that enables all living things to self-heal or to preserve life by adapting to environmental changes.
Dr. Hahnemann was the originator of several modern medical approaches. Deeming the treatment of insane patients to be cruel and harmful, he advised a humane treatment for the insane. He cured many insane patients with homeopathy, and became famous for this successes.
Hahnemann’s three major publications illumine the development of homeopathy. In the ‘Organon of Medicine‘ (revised six times), we see the fundamentals laid out. ‘Materia Medica Pura‘ records the exact symptoms of the remedy provings. In his book, ‘The Chronic Diseases, Their Peculiar Nature and Their Homeopathic Cure‘, he showed us how the natural diseases become chronic in nature when suppressed by improper treatment.
Dr. Hahnemann treated thousands of difficult and chronic cases that defied the best care from medical doctors all over Europe. Thus, he became so famous that physicians from Europe and America came to him for coaching in the new science and art of healing, called Homeopathy.
